Attack Update

The 19-year-old East Jerusalem Arab who rammed his BMW into a crowded cross-walk of soldiers and civilians last night has been identified as Kasem Mugrabi.  An update on the Jerusalem Post website says that the BMW was a present from his parents and "was to be his when he got his driver's license."  So, the guy didn't even have a license but already was living the high life.

But what takes the cake is that he settled on the terrorist attack because he "wanted to marry his cousin, and when she refused his offer, he decided to carry out a terror attack."

Arrested Development, anyone? (They are cousins...)

Seems to me a spoiled rich sissy with nothing in head, had joined hamas I think. No wonder he was rejected. I read somewhere he wasn't arrested, but shot dead. What a fool, when he got in that car he had to see it coming.

Yeah, the kid clearly had issues. Still, I'd say that this is a "criminal" issue rather than a "terrorist" issue. He was an f-wit, but certainly no "freedom fighter". This wasn't anything but an adolescent temper tantrum, and his family and community shouldn't be punished for it. You know, we have idiot adolescents on our side, too, but none of us are worried that our houses are going to be bulldozed if our kids go criminal.

On the cousins issue, though, that's not uncommon. Don't judge it based on an American perspective. There are those who believe that marrying within your extended family is a good idea because you maintain both family property and family ideals. You are more likely to have things in common with someone who was raised like you were, and your cousins are most likely to have been raised like you were, especially in a tightly knit extended family. Also, also, remember that "cousin" may be second cousin, too, so it's not all inbreeding and bad jokes.

Lisha - the guy was a member of Hamas. This was not a temper tantrum. Maybe being turned down by his cousin was the final straw, but anyone that joins Hamas, a group whose constitution clearly calls for the destruction of Israel, aspires to be a freedom fighter or a supporter of such an ideal.

I think you're wrong in your assessment of this incident.
