They Start Young!

A three-year-old girl just playfully threw a rock at me after I waved and stuck out my tongue at her.

How cute.

Yeh... they do start young. I remember getting pelted in Akko by the local kids. They were all like "hey! an evil tourist!" and threw rocks like it was the proper thing to do.

Just don't stick your tongue out at her older brother...he won't be as "cute" about it :)

You'll never believe this, but i'm reading a book about israeli counterterrorism, and it says that Duvedevan (elite IDF unit that goes undercover by blending itself into Arab society)actually trains guys to engage in protests against the IDF, throwing rocks, shouting in Arabic, etc. There are some pictures of Arab-looking guys throwing rocks at IDF soldiers, and they're really Duvedevan members. So keep your eyes open...

@Daniman and Danny: I read "Brotherhood of Warriors" and a Golani soldier giving the author's unit a hard time nearly held up an operation. So don't be a hard-ass. :-)

@Danny: Any comment or thoughts on the insubordination in other units?

Just be carefull at who you show your tongue to, could be dangerous. But by now you've realized that, don't you?

Anonymous, read "Brotherhood of Warriors" too, but I wonder which book daniman750 is refering too.

Anyway, be safe Danny

thanks debbie!

I've heard some negative things about this Brotherhood of the Warrior book, and especially its author. Namely, that he glorifies the blood and guts of the Intifada. What do you say on that front, to those who have read it?

the book i read is called
"The Israeli Secret Service and the Struggle Against Terrorism" by Ami Pedahzur

I'd say the author of Brotherhood of Warriors is actually very heavy on the training of Sayeret Duvdevan, but pretty light on actual operations, tactics, techniques and procedures, etc. So I'm not sure he glorifies blood-and-guts - I'd say his theme is more that *being* around blood-and-guts corrupts you as a person (not a new theme) than that he glorifies blood-and-guts per se.

I agree with anonymous on the book...
Anyway, Danny, how come it's not allowed to comment on the latest great and funny post?

I know, I too wanted to post on the most recent story but was unable to. It was a great read. calling it a story seems strange considering its your actual life! stay sababa.

Sorry, no comments on that Palestinian Brit post - personal reason.

Thanks for the HaAretz article, very interesting. I have to say, we have a few guys that took the 3 month course, and it really doesn't help with Hebrew. I didn't have to do it, since my Hebrew is amazing. So I don't have those problems, but man, I know the fear of thinking you're going to miss something and mess up like that (generally before I started the army I thought everyone would know everything, like what to do, but I soon found out that my language deficit was well compensated for because I'm not a freaking idiot like most guys found in infantry units!)
